Responsible Distribution

In more than 30 years of service to its members, National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD), has placed the highest priority on the health, safety, and security of employees, communities, and the environment.  As members of the NACD Alexander Chemical Corporation and Sierra Chemical Co., Carus Group Companies, take great pride in their commitment to the Responsible Distribution® process.  Responsible Distribution, an integral part of the NACD, has helped to improve the environment, health, safety and security of member companies as well as the communities in which they reside since its inception in 1991.

A member-voted condition of membership in the Association is a signed commitment to Responsible Distribution, a third-party verification program, which requires members to continuously improve performance in the environment, health, safety, and security. NACD members play a leadership role in their communities as information resources and are eager to provide the same assistance and guidance to local, state, and federal legislators on technical issues relating to the safe handling, storage, transportation, use, and disposal of chemical products.

Each NACD member agrees to follow the guiding principles of Responsible Distribution:

  1. To recognize and respond to community concerns about chemicals, their handling, and transportation.
  1. To make health, safety, security, and environmental considerations a priority in our planning for all existing and new operations, products, processes, and facilities.
  1. To inform emergency response officials, employees, customers, and the public of manufacturer’s information on chemical-related health or environmental hazards, and the manufacturer’s recommendations on protective measures.
  1. To work with customers, in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations, on product stewardship including handling, use, transportation, and disposal of chemical products.
  1. To operate our plants and facilities in a manner that protects the health, safety, and security of the public, our employees, the environment, and our facilities.
  1. To cooperate in resolving problems created by past handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals.
  1. To participate with government and others in creating responsible laws, regulations, and practices to help safeguard the community, workplace, and environment.
  1. To promote the principles and practices of Responsible Distribution by sharing experiences and offering assistance to others who produce, handle, use, transport, or dispose of chemicals.

As an active member of the NACD, Alexander Chemical and Sierra Chemical believe in going above and beyond expectations. We improve our performance by implementing world-class management practices, working with independent auditors, and tracking performance through metrics related to environment, health, safety and security. Current programs have helped us to improve our energy efficiency, and strive for continuous improvement in our daily operations, while safely handling and transporting our products globally.
